MASTER OF ARTS EXAMINATION (SEMESTER SYSTEM) IN ENGLISH & PUNJABI
The duration of the course of instruction for the Master of Arts examination shall be two years and the examination shall be held in four semesters. First and third semester shall be from July to December and Second and fourth semester shall be from January to May respectively, or as decided by Vice- Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The examination shall be conducted at the end of each semester only in those courses which have been offered in that semester.

To qualify for the award of an M.A degree in any subject taught under the semester system a candidate shall be required to complete successfully course work of 64 credits. The normal workload of a student during semester will be of 16 credits. To qualify for the grant of credits for a particular course, a candidate must get at least the pass marks. If he/she fails in course, he/she will not get credits for particular for it if at the end of the second semester successfully completed course remain less than 16 credits he/she will not be allowed to join the third semester. At the end of third semester he must have successfully completed 24 credits to enable him to join the fourth semester.

A person who has passed one of the following examination from the Panjab University or an examination recognized by the syndicate.

Eligibility condition for seeking admission in M.A(English) and M.A(Punjabi) are as follow-

  • B.A with Honors in English/Punjabi
  • Graduation in any stream with at least 50% marks in aggregate.
  • PGDCA, diploma in Physical Education, Post Graduate Diploma in Library Science or any other diploma after having passed B.A or B.Sc.
  • B.A (Pass) in full subjects obtaining at least 45% marks in English/Punjabi as an Elective subject.
  • Master’s degree in a subject other than English/Punjabi.
  • B.Sc. Honors School.
  • Bachelor’s in Education(B. Ed)
